Study Group Details

Limited to 10 participants.

Eight 90-minute sessions - instruction, writing practice, and group discussion - for all levels.

Take time over 4 months to reflect on anti-bias in early education and practice writing Learning Stories with the guidance of an expert. This group includes writing, discussion and continuing conversation in a private community.

  • Week 1: Overview/Discussion of Anti-Bias Education. Buy the book at NAEYC here or on Amazon here.

  • Weeks 2-6: Each week we will bring a learning story to connect to the chapters of the book

  • Week 7: Film viewing and discussion “Anti-Bias Education in the Early Years”

  • Week 8: We will work together to set Anti-Bias goals for ourselves as educators

What's Included

  • Course structure

    Eight sessions, all 90 minutes. Some sessions include short writing assignments. You will need a copy of the book.

  • Meet Like Minds

    Be part of a small, but like-minded community. Continue the conversation after sessions. This includes access to Julia who can help you with your Learning Stories.

  • Certificate & Materials

    A completion certificate will be available at the end of the course. And course materials related to Learning Stories will also be provided.

Director, Educa Learning Story Academy Julia Koumbassa

Julia Koumbassa joins Educa after eight years as Center Director at University of Michigan. All told, Julia has been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for almost 25 years - as a leader, teacher, trainer and parent educator.

Julia has a passion for bringing new understandings and perspectives to the work and finds joy in helping educators grow and thrive.

More recently, Julia has developed a keen interest in Learning Stories. She has visited Aotearoa New Zealand twice.
