Inquiry Group Overview

Take time over several weeks to reflect on anti-bias education and practice writing Learning Stories with the guidance of an expert. This group includes writing, discussion and continuing conversation in a private community.

Participants should plan to purchase the book "Anti-Bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves." Buy the book at NAEYC here or on Amazon here.

  • Week 1: Overview/Discussion of Anti-Bias Education
  • Weeks 2 - 6: Each week we will bring a learning story to connect to the chapters of the book
  • Week 7: Film viewing and discussion “Anti-Bias Education in the Early Years”
  • Week 8: We will work together to set Anti-Bias goals for ourselves as educators

What's Included

Course Structure

Eight, 90-minute sessions. Discuss topics from the book and share feedback on each other's Learning Stories. You will need a copy of the book.

Meet Like Minds

Join a like-minded community of peers. Continue the conversation after sessions, including access to Julia for help with your Learning Stories.

Certificate & Materials

A certificate of completion will be available at the end of the course. Materials related to Learning Stories will also be provided.

Session Dates

Six sessions will be held every other week for 1.5 hrs.

Facilitated by Julia Koumbassa

The Director of Learning Story Academy, Julia Koumbassa joins Educa after eight years as Center Director at University of Michigan. All told, Julia has been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for almost 25 years - as a leader, teacher, trainer and parent educator.

Julia has a passion for bringing new understandings and perspectives to the work and finds joy in helping educators grow and thrive.

Julia has developed a keen expertise in Learning Stories. She has visited Aotearoa, New Zealand twice.
